Fenwick Road Bridge Replacement Slated To Begin
OBPP project in Highland County will get under way August 24

Chillicothe (Monday, August 17, 2015) – As part of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Bridge Partnership Program to provide local governments with the funds needed to replace or repair locally-owned bridges, a bridge replacement project on Township Road 144 (Fenwick Road) will soon be under way.

Through the Ohio Bridge Partnership Program, approximately $120 million will be invested to repair or replace nearly 220 county and city bridges statewide through Fiscal Year 2017. Projects meeting eligibility criteria will be designed and constructed through the ODOT-Let process with 100% federal funds, meaning no local match funding will be required.
“ODOT has been working with the Ohio County Engineers Association and our local partners, like Highland County Engineer Dean Otworth, to help counties and cities improve the condition of their bridges and make Ohio’s bridges safer,” said ODOT District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson. “Although these bridges are not on ODOT’s state highway system, they are still part of Ohio’s transportation network and fixing them is key to maintaining a safe and efficient highway system.”

As part of the program, twelve bridges in ODOT District 9’s eight-county region are slated for replacement, including the Fenwick Road bridge that is situated over Plum Run in southern Highland County.

Construction is scheduled to start next week, with crews from J&J Schlaegel, Inc. closing the route to traffic on Monday, August 24. The project site is located just east of the road’s junction with S.R. 321 and near the entrance to the Mowrystown Cemetery. Throughout construction, motorists will be detoured by way of S.R. 321 and U.S. 62, and weather permitting, all work should be completed by late fall.
