Flooding, High Water Affecting Area Routes
Chillicothe (Tuesday, March 1, 2011) - The following routes on the state and federal highway system have been closed by the Ohio Department of Transportation due to flooding:
• S.R. 217, between the 5.0 and the 6.0-mile markers, west of the Linnville Post Office and the intersection with S.R. 378 South, in Lawrence County.
• S.R. 239 at U.S. 52 and West Portsmouth in Scioto County.
Motorists are also advised that high water remains on state routes 378 and 243 near Getaway in Lawrence County, and it is anticipated that the underpass and ramp from S.R. 73 to S.R. 852 at U.S. 52 and West Portsmouth in Scioto County is likely to be closed during the overnight or early morning hours of March 2. Although these routes are currently open to traffic, motorists are reminded to exercise additional caution when traveling in these areas.
In addition, the emergency exits from County Road 22 (Lawrence Street) to U.S. 52 at Ironton and from County Road 123 (Chesapeake-Symmes Creek Road) to S.R. 7 at the Chesapeake Bypass have been opened to motorists.
While these closures are in effect until further notice, motorists must follow posted detours or seek alternate routes where no detour has been posted. They are also reminded that crossing any route which has been closed is strictly prohibited, and motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when crossing any route which remains open but where standing water may be present.
