Grant Bridge Subject To Daytime Closure Next Week
Chillicothe (Tuesday, May 31, 2011) – The U.S. Grant Bridge (U.S. Route 23) in Scioto County is scheduled for daytime closure next week as part of an ongoing abutment repair project.
Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will impart daytime closure of the Ohio River crossing the week of June 6, with the bridge closed from approximately 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 6-10.
Throughout the week, crews from Advantage Steel and Construction will be sealing the towers and the deck of the Kentucky approach, as well as stressing cable strands at the Kentucky abutment. Originally scheduled to be completed in April, this phase of the project was postponed due to inclement weather.
While the bridge is closed, motorists will be detoured by way of the Carl Perkins Bridge, S.R. 852 and U.S. 52. The bridge will be open to evening and overnight travel and at all other times that the contractors are not working above the abutment.
Advantage Steel and Construction, of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, was awarded a contract in August 2010 in the amount of $896,008 to complete the project.
