Heavy Rains, High Winds Force Closure Of Lawrence-650
Chillicothe (Wednesday, March 2, 2016) – A section of state Route 650 in Lawrence County has been closed after a series of heavy rain storms, a freeze-thaw cycle and recent high winds resulted in a slip and falling trees.
S.R. 650 was restricted earlier this week after a slip occurred along the southbound (east) side of the route at the 2.8-mile marker at Elizabeth Township. Although the route was kept open and restricted with barrels, it was closed Tuesday, March 1, after trees along the shoulder and in the slip area started to give way and fall onto the roadway.
Currently, S.R. 650 is closed between County Road 21 (Porter Gap Road) and Township Road 349 (Bond Hollow Road), and although crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Lawrence County Highway Maintenance Facility will be working to clear the trees and make emergency repairs, the route will remain closed until such time that it can be restored to traffic safely.
While S.R. 650 is closed, motorists will be detoured via S.R. 522 and S.R. 93.
