Hobart Drive Extension Pushes Roadway Restrictions
Motorists reminded to use caution
Chillicothe (Tuesday, May 19, 2015) – With Phase I construction of the new Hobart/Carl Smith Drive at Hillsboro under way, lane restrictions are in effect on state Route 73, and motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution.
Crews from the John R. Jurgensen Company are extending Hobart Drive from its terminus near U.S. Route 62 at the northern corporation limit of Hillsboro to S.R. 73 at the city’s west side. With the project being built in phases, operations are under way at S.R. 73 and Harry Sauner Road, where turn lanes on S.R. 73 are being constructed and improvements are being made to Harry Sauner Road.
Currently, S.R. 73 continues to be maintained in one lane in each direction; however, an 11-foot width restriction has been imparted. In addition, Harry Sauner Road is restricted to two lanes of traffic at Careytown Road. Motorists are advised to reduce their speed, use additional caution and expect possible delays during peak travel times.
As part of the complete project, construction will also include improving Hobart Drive’s intersection with U.S. 62 by installing turn lanes; installing a traffic signal at the intersection with U.S. 62; and improving Careytown Road with the construction of a roundabout. Restrictions will be in place on these routes during subsequent phases of construction.
The John R. Jurgensen Company of Cincinnati, Ohio was awarded a contract for approximately $6.9 million to construct the new road, and although the project will take approximately two construction seasons to build, the first phase has an interim completion in the fall of 2015.
