Improvement Projects Slated To Begin On Jackson-35, 93
Chillicothe (Friday, March 17, 2017) – As the 2017 construction season gets under way, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation are set to begin work on state Route 93 and U.S. Route 35 in Jackson County.
On March 20, operations will get under way for a reconstruction project on S.R. 93 in Jackson County, where crews from BUDS Incorporated will be reconstructing a section of Main Street in the city of Jackson. The project includes installing curbs and sidewalks, placing asphalt and replacing drainage lines between Portsmouth and Bridge streets.
During the first phase of construction, Main Street will remain open, and traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Later in the project, a 60-day closure will go into effect, and motorists will be detoured by way of Broadway, Water and Bridge streets. A date to close Main Street has yet to be determined, but it is anticipated that it will be closed in mid to late April.
BUDS, Inc. was awarded a contract for approximately $873,345 to reconstruct S.R. 93, and the project is scheduled to be completed in early summer.
Then on Monday, April 3, construction will begin on U.S. 35 East for a rockfall remediation project at the 6.43-mile marker.
Crews from DGM, Incorporated will reduce the route to one lane in the eastbound direction between T.R. 223 (Caves Road) and C.R. 21 (Oakland Road), east of the Jackson-Ross County line, and construction will consist of upgrading the existing rock slope and blasting operations.
Throughout construction, traffic will be maintained in one, 12-foot lane in the eastbound direction, with westbound traffic maintained in two lanes. All four lanes of the route may be subject to short-term, intermittent periods of closure during blasting operations; however, traffic will be stopped and held by the contractors.
DGM, Inc. was awarded a contract for approximately $1,294,917 to complete the project, and all work is anticipated to be completed in early summer.
Motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution when traveling through these and other work zones, and for additional information on lane and road closures caused by construction, accidents, flooding or other related traffic events throughout the state, visit ODOT on the web at www.Ohgo.com.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
