Ironton-Russell Bridge Demolition
Sections of Piers
To Be Detonated Wednesday, Thursday
As part of the demolition plans for the Ironton-Russell Bridge, crews
from Brayman Construction Corporation and Advantage Blasting & Demolition have
scheduled to detonate the above-water sections of Piers B, C and D of the
former bridge tomorrow and Thursday, June 7 and 8.
On both days, crews will mobilize at approximately 8 a.m., with blasting operations
occurring at any time during the morning hours. Pier C, the first
Kentucky pier, will be detonated Wednesday, while Piers B and D - the Ohio pier
and the second Kentucky pier - will be detonated Thursday.
Members of the media are invited to photograph and video the event;
however, they will be restrctied to staging areas. These areas are as follows:
On Wednesday, media will be given access to the floodwall and boat ramp area off Center Street in Ironton.
On Thursday, media will be restricted to the far downstream side of the floodwall in Ironton, which is accessible by way of North 2nd Street, immediately past the viaduct.
Both of these sites will be restricted to authorized and media personnel only.
Streets within the blasting
zones in Ironton and Russell will be closed to traffic during the morning
hours. Included in this will be the Riverside Drive/floodwall area in Russell,
which will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
Operations on both days are anticipated to be completed by noon, and the
below-water sections of the piers will be removed at a later date.
