Jackson-32 Resurfacing Moving Forward
Additional lane restrictions scheduled next week
Chillicothe (Thursday, October 7, 2010) – As part of a resurfacing and rehabilitation project on state Route 32 in Jackson County, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will impart additional lane restrictions and ramp closures during regular working hours next week.
Beginning Tuesday, October 12, and continuing throughout the week, the exit/entrance ramps at the S.R. 32 junction with S.R. 93 and U.S. Route 35 will be closed for intermittent periods of time during daytime business hours while crews crews from Shelly and Sands mill and pave the ramps.
Work is planned to be conducted at the ramps to and from the S.R. 93 exit first, and then operations will move to the U.S. 35 ramps. Daily operations are anticipated to take three days at each exit, and the duration of closure will be for intervals of approximately three or four hours at each ramp.
As the ramps will be closed temporarily, there will be no posted detour. However, motorists may detour via the U.S. 35 exit while crews are working at the S.R. 93 ramps and then reverse their detour using the S.R. 93 exit while the U.S. 35 ramps are closed.
In addition, a 10-foot width restriction at the off ramp from S.R. 32 East to U.S. Route 35 East remains in effect, as well as a reduced speed limit. Motorists are reminded of the additional need for safety in the work zone.
Shelly and Sands Inc., of Zanesville, Ohio, was awarded a contract for nearly $8.8 million to rehabilitate 12 bridges and resurface nearly 10 miles of S.R. 32. The two- year construction project is being funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and all work is anticipated to be completed by early November.
