Lawrence-217 Reopens Following Inspection
Bridge Repair Scheduled To Begin Next Week; Legal Load Limit Reduced
Chillicothe (Friday, April 27, 2012) – State Route 217 in Lawrence County has been reopened to traffic following a bridge inspection earlier today; however, the route will be subject to closure and lane restrictions during the next two weeks while crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation undertake a repair project at the route’s 5.85-mile marker.
Inspections have found that the structure located at the route’s northern junction with S.R. 378 was found to have significant deterioration and slight crushing on its rear abutment. As a result, the bridge will undergo a repair project to repair the damaged beams and bolster the structure. In addition, the legal carrying load of the bridge will be reduced to 65 percent.
Currently, S.R. 217 is scheduled to be closed between S.R. 378 and Township Road 101 (Yellow Creek Road) on Wednesday, May 2, from approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. This will be a single-day closure, and while it is closed, motorists will be detoured via S.R. 141 and S.R. 378. At all other times during the repair project, the route will be open, and traffic will be maintained by flaggers when crews are at work.
The repair project is anticipated to be completed within two weeks, and its start and completion will be contingent upon the availability of materials and the weather.
