Lawrence-650 Reopens Following Tree Clearing, Temporary Repairs
Chillicothe (Wednesday, March 2, 2016) – State Route 650 in Lawrence County has been reopened following its closure yesterday, March 1, following to a bout of inclement weather.
S.R. 650 was closed last night along the east side of the route at the 2.8-mile marker at Elizabeth Township, approximately three miles north of Hanging Rock, after trees began to fall due to high wind and erosion from a slip that had occurred in the same area a day earlier.
Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Lawrence County Highway Maintenance Facility have since cleared the trees and made temporary repairs to the slip area, and ODOT District 9’s engineering and geo-technical staff are working to determine the extent of damage and the next course of action to make a permanent repair to the slip.
Although S.R. 650 is open, it remains restricted with barrels along the shoulder of the southbound lane due to the slip. Motorists are reminded to use additional caution when traveling through the area.
