Multi-County, Microsurfacing Project Under Way
U.S. 35 West on-ramp to be closed temporarily on Monday
Chillicothe (Thursday, October 13, 2016) – A temporary closure of the U.S. Route 35 West on-ramp will be required one day next week as part of a multi-county, safety-related microsurfacing project.
Crews from Strawser Construction, Incorporated are applying a single-course, high-friction surface treatment to selected routes in Ross, Brown and Scioto counties to provide for better skid resistance, especially during wet or inclement weather. Currently, preliminary operations are under way in Chillicothe, where crews are preparing the on-ramp from state Route 159 South (Bridge Street) to U.S. Route 35 West for paving.
Due to the equipment and materials being used during the application process, which will take approximately three hours to complete, it will be necessary for the contractors to close the ramp. And since application is weather and temperature dependent, it is necessary that the project be completed during daytime hours.
Therefore, Strawser crews have scheduled to close the ramp Monday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. Advance signing alerting motorists of the closure will be placed; however, as this is a short-term, temporary closure, there will be no posted detour.
Strawser Construction was awarded a contract for approximately $278,379 to pave the U.S. 35 on-ramp, as well as sections of S.R. 140 in Scioto County and S.R. 41 in Brown County. All work is anticipated to be completed by the end of October.
