ODOT Crews Out For Snow, Ice
Chillicothe (Friday, January 17, 2014 – 6:45 a.m.) – Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 highway maintenance facilities have returned to the state highways this morning to begin their patrols.
Snowplow operators from ODOT’s garages in Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties have been dispatched to patrol routes in advance of today’s anticipated snow showers. Currently, there is little to no precipitation and pavement is mostly wet; however, ice may possible or likely to form quickly, especially on bridges and overpasses, so crews are spot treating and applying salt as needed.
As always, motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution. Along with reducing their speed, drivers need to allow additional travel time and maintain a safe following distance behind other vehicles. Motorists are also reminded to give ODOT crews room to work. A snowplow operator’s field of vision is restricted, so it is important that drivers keep their distance and watch for sudden stops.
