ODOT Crews Continue Snow and Ice Patrol
Chillicothe (Thursday, January 20, 2010 – 4:20 p.m.) – Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 continue their efforts this afternoon as a winter storm makes its way through southern Ohio.
Steady snow showers today have pavement in Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Pike and Ross counties snow covered, with some primary routes partly to mostly snow covered, wet and very slushy.
Wet pavement is still being reported in Scioto and Lawrence counties; however, snow is starting to accumulate in parts of Scioto County, so routes there may become snow covered quickly. Motorists are cautioned that wet pavement will be slick and likely to become icy as night falls and the temperature drops.
Although ODOT’s snowplow drivers will be working throughout the storm to clear the state highway system of snow and ice, motorists are advised to exercise additional caution, especially when traveling over bridges and overpasses which are likely to freeze more quickly than surface pavement. They are also reminded to reduce their speed and allow additional travel time as conditions are subject to change from minute to minute and mile to mile.
Additional driver safety tips and road condition information throughout the state can be found on ODOT’s web site at www.buckeyetraffic.org.
ODOT District 9 includes Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties.
