ODOT Employees Compete In District Roadeo
Highland, Brown County Employees Take Home Truck and Loader Titles
Chillicothe - Twenty-one employees from the Ohio Department of Transportation - District 9 showed their driving muscle earlier this summer as they participated in the district’s 2008 Truck and Loader Roadeo Competition at the Scioto County Highway Maintenance Facility in Lucasville.
Through a series of tests and a driving course of clearances, serpentines and stops, the Roadeo competition measures the skill level of participating highway technicians and mechanics who operate some of the state’s heaviest equipment. As such, the annual competition serves to play a role in continuing to develop drivers' awareness, ability and safe driving practices in an effort toward making them better drivers.
"The Roadeo tests the drivers’ abilities as heavy equipment operators, and those who participate are scored based on a set criteria that judges their skills against the course and the clock," said ODOT District 9 Deputy Director James Brushart. “We have some of the state’s best drivers here in District 9, and this event gives them the opportunity to demonstrate that.”
This year's District 9 Roadeo winner in the truck competition was Brent Davis, a highway technician at ODOT's Brown County Highway Maintenance Facility, while the winner of the loader division was Graham Bartram, a highway technician from the Highland County Highway Maintenance Facility.
Respectively, this year's top six scorers in the truck competition also included Rick Ward of Pike County, Chris Fulton of Highland County, Aaron Moran of Brown County, Jon Dresbach of the district facilities, and Bob Newton of Pike County. And in the loader division, Matt Hayes of Ross County, Jamie Barton of Highland County, Jon Dresbach, Brent Davis, and Jack Vance of Highland County rounded out the top six.
Davis and Bartram will now represent the district to compete at the statewide ODOT Truck and Loader Roadeo Competition held in Columbus in September.
