Operations For Scioto-52
Rehab Moving Forward,
Chillicothe (Friday, May 2, 2014) – With operations
for a major rehabilitation project on Scioto-52 well under way, motorists
traveling through the U.S. Route 52 corridor at West Portsmouth will find restrictions
in place at several locations within the construction zone between the S.R.
239 interchange and the Portsmouth corporation limit.
U.S. 52 is reduced to one lane in the westbound direction for resurfacing,
and Ramp E from U.S. 52 West to S.R. 239 is closed for structure rehabilitation.
S.R. 852 is also reduced to one lane in each direction between the Carl
Perkins Bridge and S.R. 73/S.R. 104 North for bridge repair and resurfacing.
The closure of Ramp E is expected to be in effect through late spring, while
restrictions on S.R. 852 are anticipated to be in effect through early
addition to the restrictions on the mainline routes, the various ramps at the
interchanges will be restricted during daytime, working hours while crews
resurface these. Motorists may encounter short-term periods of delay on the
exit/entrance ramps from U.S. 52 to S.R. 73, 104, 239 and 852 as these are
subject to closure during paving operations.
The entire project, which began last
year, includes rehabilitating 13 bridges, replacing guardrail and resurfacing
U.S. 52 from Township Road 569 (Old U.S. 52) to the Scioto River bridges,
S.R. 852, S.R. 73/104 from just north of the S.R. 239 junction to the Second
Street bridge at Portsmouth, and the on/off ramps at the interchanges.
Although the interchange ramps are
subject to closure, mainline U.S. 52 will be open in a minimum of one lane in
each direction at all times. In addition to the restrictions and possible
delays, motorists are reminded to exercise additional caution in the work
The Complete General Construction Company was
awarded a contract for approximately $12 million to complete the project, and
all work is anticipated to be completed by mid-fall of this year.
