Paving Project Set To Begin On Lawrence-217
Maintenance Crews Replacing Culverts In Advance
Chillicothe (Thursday, April 17, 2014) – Preliminary operations will get under way next week for a nine-mile, two-lane resurfacing project on state Route 217 in Lawrence County.
During the week of April 21, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will begin site preparations with the removal of raised pavement markers and sign installation within the work zone that extends from S.R. 141 to S.R. 775. Paving operations will then begin the week of April 28, and throughout construction, traffic will be maintained by flaggers when crews are at work.
The Shelly Company, of Thornville, Ohio was awarded a contract for approximately $1.22 million to resurface the route, and all work is scheduled to be completed in early summer.
In concert with the resurfacing project, crews from ODOT’s Lawrence County Highway Maintenance Facility will be replacing a series of three culverts along S.R. 217, with the first located near the 3.0-mile marker, between County Road 61 (Drift Creek Road) and Township Road 114 (Dicks Creek-Drift Creek Road).
Maintenance crews will be working Friday, April 18, as well as additional days next week to replace the deteriorated pipes prior to resurfacing. Traffic will be maintained in one lane with the aid of flaggers when crews are at work, and motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution in the work zone.
