Pike-551 Now Open To Traffic
Bridge Replacement Project Nearing Completion
Chillicothe - Major operations for a bridge replacement project on state Route 551 in Pike County have been completed, and contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation have reopened the route to traffic.
“While necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public, the closure of this bridge had a significant impact on residents and motorists in the Lake White region. As such, we appreciate their patience as we worked to complete the project and reopen the route,” said ODOT District 9 Deputy Director James Brushart.
Located at the north end of Ohio-551 in the Lake White area, the former structure was closed in October 2006 after incurring severe damage from heavy rains and flooding. The new bridge, which is situated over Pee Pee Creek, was opened to traffic late Thursday, April 24.
R.C. Construction Company, of Cutler, Ohio, was awarded a contract in August 2007 in the amount of $957,115.65 to replace the bridge. With all major construction completed, the contractors have only minor finishing work to complete, and there should be little to no impact to traffic during any additional phases of construction.
