Preservation Project Set To Begin On Grant Bridge
Chillicothe (Friday, August 19, 2016) – A preservation maintenance project is scheduled to begin on the U.S. Grant Bridge (U.S. Route 23) in Scioto County, with a closure of the Ohio River crossing going into effect later this month.
Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will be resurfacing the bridge deck with a concrete overlay, as well as applying resin and sealant to the bridge joints. Crews from Bridge Specialists, Incorporated will close the Grant Bridge on Monday, August 29, and the closure will be in effect for up to 60 days.
“This is a project that will help preserve the life of the deck, and a full closure of the bridge will allow the contractors to work more safely and efficiently, completing the project in less time,” said ODOT District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson.
While the Grant Bridge is closed, motorists will be detoured by way of the Carl Perkins Bridge, S.R. 852 and U.S. 52.
Bridge Specialists, Inc. of Canfield, Ohio, was awarded a contract in the amount of $686,609 to undertake the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed by mid-October.
