Preservation Projects Set To Begin On Lawrence County Roadways
Chillicothe (Thursday, February 23, 2017) – It may be winter outside, but that’s not stopping the Ohio Department of Transportation’s 2017 construction season from getting under way in Lawrence County, with single-lane restrictions going into effect on three state routes in the coming week.
On Monday, February 27, construction will begin on S.R. 243, where contractors will reduce the route to one lane between County Road 55 (Deering-Middle Leatherwood Road) and C.R. 30 (Leatherwood Road) for a slide repair project.
The project site is situated approximately one mile west of S.R. 378, and throughout construction, traffic will be maintained in one lane by temporary signals. Shelly and Sands, Incorporated was awarded a contract for approximately $858,000 to complete the project, and all work is anticipated to be completed in late spring.
Then on Tuesday, February 28, S.R. 140 will be reduced to one lane mid-way between the Jackson and Scioto County lines for a $607,411 bridge rehabilitation project.
Crews from DGM, Incorporated will be replacing the deck of the structure that is located immediately east of C.R. 33 (Blackfork-Firebrick Road), and traffic will be maintained in one lane with the use of temporary signals during construction. The project has a scheduled completion date of July 31.
The following week, crews from the Alan Stone Company will start work to repair a slide on S.R. 217, approximately two miles west of S.R. 775. The project site is situated between T.R. 79 (Ridge Baptist Church Road) and C.R. 2 (Greasy Ridge Road), and throughout construction, traffic will be maintained in one lane by temporary signals.
Alan Stone was awarded a contract for $674,902 in December, and while construction is set to begin the week of March 6, all work associated with this project is anticipated to be completed in early summer.
Of course, with a busy construction and maintenance season on the horizon, motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution when traveling through these and other work zones.
