Progress Marked By Busy Construction Season
Motorists advised of periods of closure, traffic congestion along Ross-104 corridor
Chillicothe - Orange barrels, lane restrictions, message boards and traffic signs – all part of a busy construction season for the Ohio Department of Transportation, and all part of recovery and progress in Ross County.
With work under way on state Route 104 between the U.S. 35 interchange and the S.R. 207connector, motorists will experience additional restrictions and significant traffic impacts as construction on the stimulus-funded Ross-104 Widening progresses during this year and next.
In an effort to alleviate these impacts and reduce congestion, ODOT is establishing an alternate route for Ross-104 motorists, who will notice signs along the U.S. 35 and U.S. 23 corridors, as well as on Bridge and Main streets in downtown Chillicothe, routing through traffic around the construction zone.
Alternate routing for local intersecting roads will also be necessary as these are closed for reconstruction with S.R. 104.
The first closure will be Friday, July 31, as Moundsville Road is closed for grade construction at the route’s intersection with S.R. 104. This one-day closure is scheduled to be in effect from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Moundsville Road will then be closed for approximately two weeks beginning Monday, August 17, while the contractors begin reconstructing the road, where there will be new lane configurations and a traffic signal at its intersection with S.R. 104 once the widening project has been completed.
During periods of closure, Moundsville Road motorists will be detoured by way of Pleasant Valley Road.
With an investment of $6.5 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and total construction cost of $10.6 million, the Ross-104 Widening project is being constructed by Shelly and Sands of Zanesville, Ohio, and the completion date is fall of 2010.

In a separate project, S.R. 104 will be closed Thursday, August 6, immediately south of the U.S. 35 interchange. The route will be closed from approximately 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while contractors set the S.R. 104 crossover as part of the bike path bridge construction project.
While the route is closed, motorists will be detoured by way of U.S. 35, Bridge Street (S.R. 159), Main Street (U.S. 50) and High Street (S.R. 104).
Double Z Construction Company of Columbus, Ohio, is constructing the bike path bridge for approximately $1.2 million, and the project is scheduled to be completed in October.
