Railroad Crossing Project On Tap In Chillicothe
Paint Street Subject To Overnight Closure
Chillicothe (Thursday, July 7, 2011) – A two-week railroad crossing project in Chillicothe is scheduled to get under way this month, requiring lane restrictions and temporary, intermittent periods of closure of state Route 772.
On Monday, July 11, contractors for the Glatfelter corporation will mobilize operations at the manufacturer’s facility along South Paint Street, where crews from Tram Construction will be replacing track panels at the CSX railroad crossing near the city’s corporation limit. Throughout this first week of the project, Paint Street will remain open to traffic with little to no impact to motorists as work will be conducted off the roadway.
Then during the week of July 18, Paint Street will be subject to overnight closure for up to four nights in order for Tram crews to remove the existing track panels, install new panels at the north and south tracks, remove the middle track, and pave sections of the street adjacent to the crossings.
The first overnight closure will go into effect at 6 p.m. Monday, July 18, and continue until 6 a.m. Tuesday. On the three subsequent nights, July 19-21, Paint Street will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work will continue throughout the day Thursday, July 21; however, the road will be open to traffic and maintained by flaggers.
Although the schedule is subject to change and work will be contingent upon the weather, Paint Street will be open by 6 a.m. following each overnight closure, and all work is anticipated to be completed by Friday, July 22.
During periods of closure, motorists will be detoured via County Road 602 (Cooks Hill Road) and S.R. 104 (South Bridge Street). Law enforcement and emergency service vehicles will have access to S.R. 772 via a temporary run-around that will be constructed at the project site.
Along with periods of closure, a reduced speed limit will also be in effect, and motorists are advised to exercise additional caution in the work area.
