Restrictions At Hobart Road/Carl Smith Drive Rescheduled
Chillicothe (Friday, September 4, 2015) – While the new extension of Hobart Road at Hillsboro was scheduled to open to westbound traffic this week, traffic changes and restrictions have been postponed temporarily.
Construction is under way on Hobart Road, where contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Highland County Engineer’s Office are building a 1.2-mile road between U.S. Route 62 and state Route 73 at Hillsboro.
In the weeks to come, crews from the John R. Jurgensen Company will be reconstructing and widening the existing segment of Hobart Road between Homestead Avenue and U.S. 62. As part of this phase of construction, the new extension of Hobart Road – or, Carl Smith Drive – will be opened to one lane of one-way westbound traffic, and Hobart Road from Homestead Avenue to U.S. 62 will be closed to eastbound traffic.
Although it was anticipated that the restrictions on Hobart Road would be in effect this week, the schedule has been postponed due to utility issues in which lighting on the new road is not yet operational. A date to impart the traffic changes has yet to be determined; however, it is expected that the restrictions will be in place by late next week or the following week.
Currently, crews are completing additional drainage and paving work on Hobart Road, and the existing road remains open two-way traffic. In addition, Jurgensen crews are completing curb work on the new road and paving operations on S.R. 73.
The John R. Jurgensen Company of Cincinnati, Ohio was awarded a contract for approximately $6.9 million to construct the new road, and with an interim completion for fall of this year, all work is anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2016.
