S.R. 139 In Jackson County Reopens Following Bridge Replacement
Project Three Weeks Ahead Of Schedule
Chillicothe (Tuesday, April 30, 2013) – Construction for a bridge replacement project on state Route 139 in Jackson County is nearing completion, and the route is now open to traffic.
According to Ohio Department of Transportation - District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson, crews from BUDS, Incorporated have reopened S.R. 139 at the 12.28-mile marker, where it has been closed since mid-March for contractors to replace the existing structure with a four-sided, pre-cast concrete box culvert.
“Although the plans allowed for a 60-day closure of the route, the contractors and our construction team were able to expedite the project and complete major construction nearly three weeks ahead of schedule,” said Wilson.
Crews have only minor finishing work to complete at the site, which is located between S.R. 32 and T.R. 274 (Chestnut Grove Road), south of Jackson; however, the route will remain open, and traffic will be maintained in one lane with the use of flaggers when crews are at work.
BUDS, Inc. of Nashport, Ohio, was awarded a contract for approximately $300,000 to replace the bridge, and all work is anticipated to be completed by early summer.
