Pike-220/Schuster Road Project Moves Into Next Phase
Traffic To Be Rerouted To New S.R. 220 Via Schuster Road
Chillicothe (Tuesday, October 18, 2011) – In conjunction with the ongoing relocation of state Route 220 in Pike County, traffic changes are scheduled to be imparted later this week.
Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will close the existing section of S.R. 220 between its junction with County Road 78 (Zahn’s Corner Road) and state Route 32, and traffic to and from S.R. 32 will be rerouted along the newly reconstructed County Road 81 (Schuster Road). This reconstructed section of Schuster Road will now be the relocated (or new) section of S.R. 220.
With the closure of the existing section of S.R. 220, there will be no access to the route from S.R. 32 via the County Road 66 (Germany Road) intersection. Although the route will be closed, traffic on this section of S.R. 220 will be maintained by way of Zahn’s Corner for local motorists to residential properties.
Currently, the traffic changes are scheduled to go into effect on Thursday, October 20; however, this date is subject to change.
The entire project calls for relocating a section of S.R. 220 between its intersection with Zahn’s Corner Road and S.R. 32 by way of upgrading Schuster Road to the state highway system; installing a flashing signal at the new intersection of S.R. 220 and S.R. 32; abandoning the existing section of S.R. 220 between Zahn’s Corner Road and S.R. 32; and eliminating the crossover access to Germany Road.
Shelly and Sands, Incorporated of Zanesville, Ohio, was awarded a contract in the amount of $2.6 million to the complete the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed in June 2012.
