S.R. 7 Closure Still In Effect
Chillicothe (Friday, November 01, 2013) – Due to multiple issues with downed utility lines in Lawrence County, state Route 7 remains closed at Chesapeake this afternoon, and the closure will likely be in effect throughout the remainder of the day.
S.R. 7 was closed at County Road 124 (Tallow Ridge Road) after power lines came down across the four-lane route during a rash of storms and high winds that occurred during the overnight. Along with the lines, a portion of the utility pole has fallen across the highway, and two conductors have broken as well.
Crews from AEP are working to replace the pole and restore the lines; however, the repairs will continue throughout the afternoon and evening hours, and it is anticipate that S.R. 7 will remain closed until at least 8 p.m. tonight.
ODOT crews continue to provide traffic control, and motorists may detour via U.S. 52 East and the 17th Street (Nick Rahall) Bridge at Huntington and the 6th Street (S.R. 527/Robert Byrd) Bridge in Huntington to S.R. 7/S.R. 527 at Chesapeake.
