Scioto-522 Culvert Replacement On Tap Following Collapse
Chillicothe (Wednesday, March 8, 2017) – A culvert replacement project has begun on state Route 522 in Scioto County following last week’s severe storms that resulted in a collapsed culvert and forced the route’s closure.
S.R. 522 was closed between Township Road 262 (Mill Road) and T.R. 260 (Goose Creek Road), last Thursday, March 2, after the pavement suffered extensive damage and a culvert located at the 3.71-mile marker was undermined due to flash flooding.
With the flood waters having receded sufficiently, crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Scioto County Highway Maintenance Facility are now able to undertake the replacement project, and work has begun on the route today.
Although an exact schedule to complete the culvert replacement and other roadway repairs has yet to be determined, it is anticipated that all work will be completed early next week. In the meantime, motorists will be detoured by way of U.S. 52 and S.R. 650 in Lawrence County.
