Scioto-823 Construction Affecting Local Roads
Stout Hollow subject to daytime closures through next week
Chillicothe (Tuesday, September 22, 2015) – While most operations for construction of the state Route 823 project in Scioto County are being conducted off the roadway, contractors for the Portsmouth Gateway Group and the Ohio Department of Transportation are imparting temporary restrictions and closures, particularly on local roads, that will affect motorists and residents.
Beginning Wednesday, September 23, and continuing through Tuesday, September 29, County Road 246 (Stout Hollow Road) will be subject to daytime-only closure for crews to conduct off-roadway borings. The daily closures are anticipated to be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the route open to evening, overnight and weekend travel.
In addition to this, Shumway Hollow Road remains closed between S.R. 335 and Swauger Valley Road for its relocation and interchange construction at S.R. 335, and blasting operations are under way within the immediate project zone between Shumway Hollow and Lucasville-Minford roads. Motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution throughout the corridor, where crews and heavy equipment are moving in and out of the work zone.
Upon its completion, the new S.R. 823 (Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway) will be a 16-mile, four-lane limited access highway from U.S. 23 north of Lucasville to U.S. 52 near Sciotoville. ODOT awarded a contract last fall to the Portsmouth Gateway Group for development of the project, and completion of the new roadway is targeted for December 2018.
The Portsmouth Gateway Group includes ACS Infrastructure Development, Inc.; Infrared Capital Partners Limited; Star America Fund; Dragados, USA; Beaver Excavating; John R. Jurgensen Company; and ms Consultants.
