County Bridge Replacement Project On Tap
Construction Slated To Begin Next Week
Chillicothe - As part of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s ongoing commitment to preserve and maintain the state’s infrastructure, a bridge replacement and roadway improvement project is set to begin next week over Pine Creek in Scioto County.
According to ODOT District 9 Deputy Director James Brushart, contractors will be replacing a bridge located at the 2.18-mile marker on County Road 257 (Hayport Road), south of U.S. Route 52 at Wheelersburg, as well as reconstructing a 3,300-foot section of roadway and raising the grade of the route’s pavement.
“This is an important and much-needed preservation project for the county road, and working in conjunction with the Scioto County Engineer's Office, the contractors will be replacing a deteriorated bridge with a three-span steel beam structure and raising the elevation of the roadway,” said Brushart.
Located approximately two miles south of U.S. 52 at Wheelersburg, the bridge to be replaced is situated between Township Road 449 (Keport Road) and French Road over a tributary adjacent to the Ohio River. By replacing the bridge and raising the grade of the route, the project will eliminate the potential for severe flooding that is likely to occur.
Crews from DGM Incorporated of Beaver, Ohio, are scheduled to begin working at the east end of the project site near French Road on Monday, August 25. Throughout most major construction, the route will be closed, and traffic will be detoured via U.S. 52.
DGM Incorporated was awarded a contract in the amount of $3.875 million in June, and all construction is scheduled to be completed by August 31, 2010.
