Scioto County Routes Affected By Flooding
Chillicothe (Thursday, March 3, 2011) - The following routes on the state and federal highway system in Scioto County are closed today due to flooding:
• S.R. 239 at U.S. 52 and West Portsmouth;
• U.S. 52 exit ramp to S.R. 852;
• S.R. 73 underpass at U.S. 52 and S.R. 852;
• S.R. 73/104 South to the Second Street Bridge and Portsmouth; and
• Second Street Bridge from Portsmouth to S.R. 73/104 North.
Motorists traveling in this area west of Portsmouth, commonly known as the “Spaghetti Bowl” area, may detour by way of U.S. 52.
High water is also present on state Route 650, just south of S.R. 522, in Lawrence County; however, the route is passable and remains open to traffic. In addition, the emergency exits from County Road 22 (Lawrence Street) to U.S. 52 at Ironton and from County Road 123 (Chesapeake-Symmes Creek Road) to S.R. 7 at the Chesapeake Bypass have been opened to motorists.
Closures will remain in effect until further notice, and motorists are reminded that crossing any closed route is strictly prohibited. Motorists are also advised to exercise extreme caution when crossing any route which remains open but where standing water may be present.
