Second Scioto-52 Resurfacing Project Slated To Begin
Crews Scheduled To Start Next Week
Chillicothe (Tuesday, April 5, 2011) – Another resurfacing project on U.S. Route 52 in Scioto County is set to get under way as contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation mobilize their crews and prepare to pave.
The Shelly Company has been awarded a separate contract to resurface U.S. 52 between S.R. 140 and S.R. 522, and according to ODOT - District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson, construction is set to begin next week.
“The 2011 construction is gearing up all across the state, and this is just one of many preservation and safety projects that we have taking place in Scioto County and District 9,” said Wilson. “But as the orange barrels and cones go up for both construction and maintenance projects, it’s important to remind motorists of the additional need for safety in all work zones.”
With lane and width restrictions are already in place between the Portsmouth/New Boston corporation limit and S.R. 140, motorists will see the work zone extended beginning Monday, April 11, as traffic will be maintained in at least one, 12-foot lane in each direction from S.R. 140 to S.R. 522.
The Shelly Company of Thornville, Ohio, was awarded a contract for approximately $4.5 million, and the scheduled completion date for this project, as well as the ongoing U.S. 52 paving project, is October 31, 2011.
