Second Open House Set To Discuss Scioto-823 Blasting Ops
Chillicothe (September 30, 2015) – A second open house will be held to discuss blasting operations for the Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway project in Scioto County.
Representatives from the Portsmouth Joint Venture, the Portsmouth Gateway Group and the Ohio Department of Transportation will hold the open-house meeting Wednesday, October 7, to address blasting operations that will take place during construction for the new state Route 823. This next informational meeting is for anyone who lives within the entire corridor between U.S. 23 and U.S. 52 and may be affected by the blasting.
Currently, blasting operations are under way primarily between Shumway Hollow and Fairgrounds roads, with periodic blasts taking place daily. Although the proximity of blasting operations to homes and businesses is very limited, residents who live in the general area where construction sequencing is taking place may hear a series of warning sounds that signal a blast, and they may experience brief ground or sound vibrations once the blast occurs.
In conjunction with the blasting, staff from Sauls Seismic, LLC continue to conduct pre-blast surveys with property owners whose structures lie within 1,500 feet of any blasting operation, and during operations, they are monitoring the blasts and the ground by way of calibrated seismographs.
Next week’s meeting will begin at 6 p.m., and it will held at ODOT’s project field office located at 4301-A Lucasville, Minford. Representatives from the Portsmouth JV and Senex Blasting will conduct a brief presentation at the start of the meeting, and this will be followed by an open house for residents to ask questions and meet one on one with the construction team.
