Second Phase Of OBPP Project Set To Begin
Huron Street bridge replacement will get under way next week
Chillicothe (Thursday, June 23, 2016) – As part of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Bridge Partnership Program to provide local governments with the funds needed to replace or repair locally-owned bridges, a bridge replacement project on Huron Street in the city of Jackson will soon be under way.
Through the Ohio Bridge Partnership Program, approximately $120 million will be invested to repair or replace nearly 220 county and city bridges statewide through Fiscal Year 2017. Projects meeting eligibility criteria will be designed and constructed through the ODOT-Let process with 100% federal funds, meaning no local match funding will be required.
The Huron Street project is one of two bridge replacements in Jackson being undertaken through the program and under the same contract. The project also included the replacement of the Dickason Street bridge located just south of Huron. Currently, Dickason Street is closed, and motorists are being detoured via Burlington Road.
Once the project on Dickason Street is completed, Huron Street will be closed between Dickason and Burlington. It is anticipated that Huron Street will be closed during the week of June 27, and the closure will be in effect for up to 45 days. While it is closed, motorists will be detoured via Dickason, Burlington Road and Hilltop Drive.
Shelly & Sands was awarded a contract for approximately $1.13 million to replace both bridges, and all work should be completed in early fall.
