Street Exit Via S.R. 73/104 Closed
(Tuesday, September 02, 2014) – The
Second Street exit from state Route 73/104 to downtown Portsmouth in Scioto
County has been closed due to structural issues of the MSE wall along the
As part of the U.S.
Route 52 rehabilitation project, contractors for the Ohio Department of
Transportation are repairing the wall along the S.R. 73/104 South exit to the
Second Street Bridge. During construction today, September 2, backfill behind
the wall gave way, causing portions of the wall to collapse and push debris
onto the roadway.
Although crews will
continue to make the needed repairs to the wall, it is necessary for the safety
of the traveling public to close the route until the repairs are completed. While
the route is closed, motorists will be detoured to the Second Street Bridge
and Portsmouth via S.R. 852.
Lane restrictions are
also in effect on S.R. 852, where crews from Complete General Construction are
completing paving operations, as well as on the interchange ramps, where they
are grinding bridge joints. S.R. 852 is open, and traffic is being maintained
by flaggers; however, the interchange ramps are subject to intermittent
periods of short-term closure.
Motorists are advised
to expect periods of delay through the entire construction zone between Township
Road 569 (Old U.S. 52) to the Scioto River bridges at Portsmouth,
and they are also reminded of the need for additional caution in the work
