Shoulder Collapse On Scioto-23 Forcing Temporary Closure
Chillicothe (Thursday, June 9, 2011) – U.S. Route 23 South in Scioto County will be subject to short-term periods of closure today as well as an all-day closure tomorrow due to a collapsed shoulder in the construction zone for a culvert replacement project near the 15.0-mile marker, north of Lucasville.
The shoulder collapse has occurred along the west side (driving lane) of the southbound lanes of the work zone where crews from DGM Incorporated are replacing a culvert that is approximately one-half mile north of County Road 25 (Cockerill’s Run Road) and two miles south of the Scioto-Pike County line.
As the contractors make temporary repairs today, June 9, the route will be subject to intermittent periods of closure, with traffic being stopped for up to 15-minute intervals.
Then on Friday, June 10, the route will be closed to all southbound traffic while DGM crews mill and replace pavement. The closure will be in effect from approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until all work is completed.
Throughout the day, U.S. 23 South motorists will be detoured via S.R. 32 to S.R. 104 at Jasper to S.R. 348. The route will remain open to northbound traffic, which will continue to be diverted to the passing lane of U.S. 23 South by way of a crossover that was constructed for the project.
Once the emergency repairs are completed, two-way traffic will be returned to one, 10-foot lane in each direction in the southbound lanes of U.S. 23 until operations are reversed for the next phase of construction.
DGM, Inc. of Beaver, Ohio, was awarded a contract for approximately $300,000 to complete the project, and the scheduled completion date is July 15, 2011.
