Temporary Closure Slated For C.R. 83 In Pike County
Chillicothe - Operations for a bridge replacement project on Tile Mill Road in Pike County will resume next week, with the route subject to temporary periods of closure for up to three days.
According to Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 Deputy Director James A. Brushart, crews from Ratzlaff Construction will be setting 27 beams over a period of three days in conjunction with the ongoing bridge replacement on County Road 83 (Tile Mill Road).
“As part of the department’s commitment to assist local communities maintain their infrastructure, replacement and relocation of the bridge is necessary for preservation as well as the safety of the traveling public,” said Brushart.
The bridge being replaced is located at the route’s 0.21-mile marker, just north of the road’s junction with state Route 335, and plans call for moving the bridge in order to eliminate its location on a curve and elevate its position over the tributary to Big Beaver Creek.
While crews are setting the beams, the route will be closed temporarily during daytime, working hours only on March 18, 19 and 20. The time of closure each day will be contingent upon the weather and the contractor’s ability to facilitate off-loading the beams. Although the route will be open to traffic at all other times, during periods when the route is closed, motorists will be detoured locally and by way of state routes 32 and 335.
Ratzlaff Construction of Chillicothe, Ohio, was awarded a contract in the amount of $966,654 to replace the structure, and construction began in November with the contractors clearing and grubbing the site area. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by July 31, 2008.
