Tile Mill Bridge Replacement Moves Into Next Phase Of Construction

Chillicothe - Preparing for the next phase of construction, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation have planned to close Tile Mill Road in Pike County.

According to Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 Deputy Director James A. Brushart, contractors are replacing a bridge located at the 0.21-mile marker on County Road 83 (Tile Mill Road) with the construction of a new structure on a relocated alignment.

“The existing bridge has been prone to flooding from the creek, and the alignment of the structure is not conducive to safe travel,” said Brushart. “Working with the Pike County Engineer’s Office, which has sponsored this project, we are committed to assisting our local communities not only to maintain and preserve their infrastructure, but also to improve safety.”

The project site is located just north of the road’s junction with state Route 335, and plans call for moving the bridge in order to eliminate its location on a curve and elevate its position over the tributary to Big Beaver Creek.

Closure of the route is scheduled to be imparted Monday, April 21, and will be in effect for up to 45 days. While Tile Mill Road is closed, motorists will be detoured via state routes 32 and 335.

Ratzlaff Construction was awarded a contract in the amount of $966,654 to replace the structure. Construction began in November 2007, and the entire project is scheduled to be completed by July 31, 2008.
