U.S. 23/Seif Road Construction Slated To Begin
Chillicothe - With 73 projects on tap this year, the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 has a busy construction season, and according to Deputy Director James Brushart, one of those projects is an important turn-lane addition on U.S. Route 23 in Pike County.
“This is a much-needed project to improve the safety of the route’s intersection with Seif Road, and it will serve in concert with the proposed interchange modification project that has been funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act,” said Brushart. “Moreover, we are pleased to be working with our local partners from the Pike County Commissioners and the Pike County Community Development Office, and we appreciate the cooperation of property owners in the area.”
On Tuesday, May 26, construction is scheduled to begin for a turn-lane addition on U.S. Route 23 at Township Road 603 (Seif Road). The project calls for the construction of north and southbound left-turn lanes, as well as a southbound right-turn lane and radius improvements at the intersection of U.S. 23 and Seif Road, approximately three miles south of Piketon.
Throughout most construction, U.S. 23 traffic will be reduced to one, 12-foot lane in each direction, with lane restrictions in the left (passing) lanes during the first phase of the project.
“Our efforts do create an impact to the traveling public; however, they are necessary to maintain the integrity of our routes, improve our infrastructure and provide enhanced safety, so it is important to remind motorists of the need for additional caution when they are traveling in construction and maintenance work zones,” added Brushart.
The Shelly Company, of Thornville, Ohio, was awarded a contract in late April in the amount of $336,945 to complete the turn-lane addition on U.S. 23, and the project is scheduled to be completed August 31.
