U.S. 35 West In Jackson County To Be Closed Intermittently
Traffic will be held for excavation operations along U.S. 35 East
Chillicothe (Wednesday, February 17, 10:15 a.m.) – U.S. Route 35 WEST in Jackson County will be closed intermittently today, February 17, in conjunction with the excavation and slide repair project that is under way along the route’s eastbound lanes.
Although the westbound lanes were not to be affected by the project, contractors and officials from the Ohio Department of Transportation have determined to close the route’s westbound lanes for the safety of the traveling public.
Currently, both eastbound lanes are closed as crews from Stable Construction repair the ledge and hillside adjacent to U.S. 35 East following a rock slide that occurred last week between the route’s 6.0 and 7.0-mile markers.
For intermittent periods of up to 15 minutes, U.S. 35 West will be closed as crews cut and remove rock from the hillside that is opposite the highway. The periodic closures are needed to assure motorists’ safety as rock and debris could cross the median area to the westbound side of the highway when it falls.
Westbound traffic will be held and maintained by ODOT and officials from the State Highway Patrol; at all other times throughout the day, traffic will not be restricted.
Both lanes of U.S. 35 East will remain closed, and eastbound traffic is being detoured by way of U.S. 35 at Chillicothe to U.S. 23 South to Piketon, to S.R. 32 East to Jackson to U.S. 35. It is anticipated that one lane of eastbound traffic will be reopened by approximately 5 p.m. today.
