U.S. Grant Bridge To Remain Closed During Overnight
Chillicothe (Monday, June 6, 2011) – Although the U.S. Grant Bridge (U.S. Route 23) in Scioto County was scheduled for daytime-only closure this week, the bridge will be now closed to all traffic during the evening and overnight hours through Wednesday, June 8.
Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation have closed the Ohio River crossing in order to seal the towers and deck of the Kentucky approach. In order to allow for multiple coats of the sealant to dry and cure properly, though, it will be necessary that the bridge remain closed through Wednesday night of this week.
In addition to sealing the deck and towers, crews from Advantage Steel and Construction are stressing cable strands and adjusting wind ties on the cables – maintenance items which require crews to work above the structure and that were postponed earlier in the spring due to inclement weather.
Following the three-day closure, the bridge will also be subject to daytime-only closure on Thursday and Friday, June 9 and 10, from approximately 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. both days. While the bridge is closed, motorists will be detoured by way of the Carl Perkins Bridge, S.R. 852 and U.S. 52.
Advantage Steel and Construction, of Saxonburg, Pennsylvania, was awarded a contract in August 2010 in the amount of $896,008 to complete the project.
