District 9 Weekly Travel Report
For the week ending March 28, 2014: The following traffic advisory includes road construction and major maintenance projects requiring lane restrictions and/or closures along the state and federal highway system within ODOT District 9. MONDAY, MARCH 24: S.R. 125 will be closed between Riley Hollow and Hazelbaker roads for a bridge replacement project. The closure is anticipated to be in effect through mid-summer, and while the route is closed, motorists will be detoured via S.R. 348 and Blue Creek Road. (#14-0004)
S.R. 125 is reduced to one lane between George Miller Road and S.R. 763/353 due to a collapsed culvert. Traffic will be maintained in one lane with the use of temporary signals. The restriction is anticipated to be in effect through early April.
A slide repair project is under way on U.S. 52. Contractors are working as weather permits to repair a rock slide at the 3.58-mile marker, between the Brown-Clermont County line and Higginsport. Crews will be working as weather permits, and traffic will be maintained in two lanes with temporary pavement and flaggers. Motorists are advised of lane shifts and possible restrictions. The project is anticipated to be completed by mid-summer. (#13-0601)
S.R. 286 is closed between Bodman Road and U.S. 69 for a bridge replacement project. The route will be closed for up to 75 days, and motorists will be detoured via U.S. 68, S.R. 131 and U.S. 50 at Marathon. The project is anticipated to be completed in mid-summer. (#13-0512)
S.R. 763 is closed between West Fork Road and S.R. 353 for a dual bridge replacement project. The route will be closed for up to 150 days, and motorists will be detoured via S.R. 41, U.S. 52, U.S. 62, and S.R. 353. (#13-8048)
S.R. 505 is closed at its junction with U.S. 52 at Higginsport for a slip repair project. Throughout construction, traffic will be detoured via U.S. 52, S.R. 133 and S.R. 756 in Clermont County. The project is scheduled to be completed in early summer. (#13-0577)
S.R. 134 is closed immediately north of Brown Road, between U.S. Route 50 and S.R. 131, for crews to start a bridge repair project. Commencement of the project will be contingent upon the weather, and the anticipated duration of closure is 75 days once the route is closed. While the route is closed, motorists will be detoured via U.S. 50 and S.R. 131. (#13-0592)
MARCH 17-28: S.R. 32 East will be reduced to one lane (eastbound direction) just east of the S.R. 32/327 interchange at Wellston for slip repair work. While the route will be open to one lane of traffic, motorists are reminded to use additional caution in the work zone; westbound traffic should not be affected by this project. The project is anticipated to be completed by March 28.
S.R. 7 is reduced to one, 10-foot lane just east (north) of its junction with S.R. 527 at Chesapeake and west of C.R. 32 (Eaton Road). Throughout construction, traffic will be maintained with temporary traffic signals, and the project is scheduled to be completed in early summer. (#13-0543)
Preliminary operations for a bridge replacement project are under way on S.R. 7 at the Indian Guyan Creek bridge, just west of Proctorville. Currently, traffic is being maintained in one lane by flaggers when crews are at work. During major construction, the route will be reduced to one, 11-foot lane and traffic will be maintained by temporary traffic signals. The single-lane restriction is anticipated to be in effect the week of April 7. (#14-0078)
The Ironton-Russell Bridge replacement project is under way, with work being conducted off affected roadways. In addition to localized closures affecting downtown traffic, motorists are advised of equipment entering and exiting the work zone in Ironton and at the U.S. 23 viaduct in Kentucky. (#11-0628)
As part of the Ironton-Russell Bridge replacement, First Street and Campbell Avenue in Ironton will be closed intermittently during daytime, business hours for construction of the Ohio approach. Crews will move from site to site, imparting separate closures as they progress through this phase of the project. Motorists will be detoured locally in downtown.
C.R. 85 (Tennyson Road) is closed at its junction with C.R. 21 (Sunfish Creek Road), approximately one mile east of S.R. 772, for a bridge rehabilitation project. The closure will be in effect for up to 120 days, and while the route is closed, motorists will be detoured via S.R. 772 and S.R. 32. (#14-0026)
S.R. 32 is reduced to one lane in the westbound direction at the 20.24-mile marker for a slide repair project. The project site is situated between the CSX Railroad underpass (east of Beaver Creek Road) and the Darst Road/Beaver Pike intersection. Throughout construction, traffic will be maintained in at least one lane in each direction, although eastbound traffic should not be affected. The project is scheduled to be completed in late spring 2014. (#13-0530)
Preliminary operations for a slip repair project on S.R. 335 are under way. Crews will be repairing a slip just south of C.R. 56 (Carrs Run Road), approximately four miles north of T.R. 522 (Overly Road). Once major construction begins, the route will be reduced to one lane, and traffic will be maintained by temporary traffic signals. The project is scheduled to be completed in early summer 2014. A slip repair project has begun on S.R. 104, at the 4.6-mile marker, just north of C.R. 21 (Sunfish Creek Road). Crews will be placing rock channel protection along the slope, and during the first phase of construction, there should be little impact to traffic. The project is anticipated to be completed in early summer. (#13-0560)
An intersection improvement/turn lane addition project on Main Street (U.S. 50) in Chillicothe is nearing completion. Crews have minor finishing work to complete, and there should be little to no impact to traffic; all traffic will be maintained by flaggers and arrow boards as needed when crews are at work. MARCH 24-28: U.S. 50 (Eastern Avenue) will be closed at the CSX railroad crossing, between the U.S. 23 interchange and the U.S. 35 on/off ramps, for a repair project at the crossing. Motorists traveling U.S. 23 North to U.S.35/50 East or Eastern Avenue will be detoured via the S.R. 159/Bridge Street Exit and then back to U.S. 35 East/U.S. 23 South at the interchange. Motorists traveling from U.S. 50 West or in downtown Chillicothe will also be detoured via Bridge Street and U.S. 35 East.
As part of an upcoming bridge project on S.R. 348, preliminary operations are under way, and temporary lane restrictions will be in place while crews prepare the site. The project site is situated at the bridge located just east of the S.R. 348 and S.R. 104 intersection. During site preparations, traffic will be maintained by flaggers and law enforcement personnel. APRIL 11-14: As part of the bridge rehabilitation on S.R. 348, the route will be closed Friday, April 11, through Monday, April 14, for crews to set traffic controls that will be used during construction. The closure will go into effect at 6 p.m. Friday and continue until approximately 6 a.m. Monday. Traffic will be detoured via S.R. 104 North and S.R. 32 to U.S. 23 or via S.R. 104 South and U.S. 52 to U.S. 23. (#13-0583)
MONDAY, MARCH 24: Crews will return to U.S. 52 to resume operations for a rehabilitation and resurfacing project between the S.R. 239 interchange and the Scioto River bridges at the Portsmouth corporation limit. During the initial phase, Ramp E from U.S. 52 West to S.R. 239 will be closed to traffic for structure rehab. Currently, the mainline line routes and ramps are open to traffic with no restrictions. All work is anticipated to be completed in mid-fall. (#12-3008)
U.S. 23 South is reduced to one, 12-foot lane (southbound direction only) at the Portsmouth corporation limit for a slip repair. The project site is located between Selma/Richard Street and Lowry Hollow Road. Northbound traffic should not be affected by this project, and all work is scheduled to be completed by early summer 2014. (#13-0547)
