 Our County

Adams County was founded in 1797 and named for President John Adams. The county has a total area of 586.25 square miles, and the principal communities include Manchester, Peebles, Seaman, West Union and Winchester.

In addition to many parks and preserves, Adams County is home to Serpent Mound, a 1,348-foot effigy mound built on a plateau along Ohio Brush Creek and one of Ohio's greatest archeological wonders.

 Our Work

In each county, the highway maintenance workforce is comprised of highway technicians (HTs), auto technicians and office personnel. The HTs are the most visible of all ODOT employees, as they are the ones who are seen clearing the state highway system of snow and ice during the winter-weather months. In addition to this and responding to emergencies as needed, county maintenance crews perform other operations throughout the year, including:
  • Guardrail installation and repair
  • Pavement repair and resurfacing
  • Culvert replacement and drainage cleaning
  • Vegetation control, mowing and brush cutting
  • Litter control
  • Sign installation and pavement marking repair

The Adams County maintenance facility is located on S.R. 41 (Manchester Road) in the village of West Union, just south of the junction with S.R. 125. The state highway system is comprised of 10 state routes and one federal route; they include S.R. 32, S.R. 41, S.R. 73, S.R. 125, S.R. 136, S.R. 137, S.R. 247, S.R. 348, S.R. 770, S.R. 781 and U.S. 52.
