As the Ironton-Russell Bridge replacement project moves into its final stages, construction includes completing the intersections for the new bridge’s approaches in Kentucky and Ohio. Along with using additional caution in the work zones, motorists are advised of the following impacts to traffic:
- KY244 (Bellefonte Street) is reduced to one lane at the U.S. 23 viaduct, adjacent to the approach for the new structure. Traffic is being maintained with signalization.
- Additional restrictions and traffic pattern changes are in effect on U.S. 23 in Kentucky, at the junction with Bellefonte Street and the viaduct, adjacent to the approach for the new structure.
- Southbound U.S. 23 traffic is reduced to one thru lane and one turn lane. to Bellefonte Street. Northbound U.S. 23 traffic will continue to be maintained in two thru lanes and one turn lane for Bellefonte Street; however, traffic patterns will be shifted to the north.
First Street and Campbell Avenue in downtown Ironton are subject to temporary closure and intermittent restrictions for Ohio approach construction.
Second Street is closed at Jefferson Street where the approach ramp to the new bridge is located.
Heavy equipment and crews are mobilized along U.S. 23 and the viaduct at the Kentucky approach.
