Purpose
The area around the 33/664 Interchange has become increasingly commercialized over the past five to ten years. The amount of traffic traveling in this area has also increased causing congestion and overall safety concerns. The Ohio Department of Transportation will minimize the traffic congestion and ultimately make the interchange a safer place to travel.
Proposed Alternatives
A.) Align and add traffic signals to the ramp intersections. Left turn lanes would be installed at both of the ramp intersections. The bridge will be widened. Because of the close proximity to the CR 419 signal, the new signals would need to be a part of a coordinated system. Signalizing the intersections may reduce angle type crashes, but may not fully address rear end crashes. Estimated Cost: $3.5-$4 million.
B.) Install roundabouts at the ramp intersections. The bridge would be widened. Installing roundabouts will reduce delay and the number of stops at the intersection. With a roundabout, the number of intersection conflict points is reduced. Reducing the number of stops will likely reduce the number of rear end type crashes. Estimated Cost: $3.5-$4 million.
C.) No Build. Current condition of the intersection.

33/664 Interchange:The Facts
In 2009, ODOT conducted a safety study of the 33/664 interchange in Hocking County. The study concluded the need for some type of alternative to help ease the congestion and address the overall safety. From the data collected through the study, ODOT has complied potential alternatives to help minimize congestion and make the interchange a safer place to drive.
Crash Data:
From 2007-2009 there have been an estimated 42 crashes. 67% of those were property damage only and occurred during Daylight hours (74%) on dry pavement (83%).
The majority of crashes are rear-end type ( 51%).
Close to all of the crashes were either intersection or intersection-related crashes (95%).
