ODOT District 10 Battles Rival

During Major Bowl Game

MARIETTA (Tuesday, November 26, 2013) – With several college football rivalries being played this weekend, one rivalry has already begun – Mother Nature’s Snow & Ice vs. ODOT’s Snowplow Drivers.

This year’s Winter Bowl is the most anticipated showdown to date, as the Snow & Ice look to knock-off ODOT’s “Green Machine,” winner of the 2012 American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Excellence in Snow & Ice Control Award.

Although Mother Nature packed a wintery wallop in the first half, it couldn’t compete with the more than 4,000 lane miles and 126 trucks in District 10.

 First Half Recap

While mother nature dropped nearly an inch of wintery mix onto southeastern Ohio today, ODOT Snowplow Drivers fought back as they unleashed an arsenal of snow and ice removal weapons such as salt, brine, and calcium chloride.

Equipped with a calibrated salt spreader, infrared road sensor, flashing green lights and a 12 foot plow blade, Mother Nature was no match for the fine-tuned ODOT trucks as they plowed through opposing winter defenses helping drivers safely navigate Ohio’s highways and bridges.

Second Half Expectations

While Snow & Ice was no match for the “Green Machine” during the first half, Mother Nature will make some second half adjustments expecting to produce falling temperatures along with a mix of rain, snow and sleet which they hope will slow down the plow drivers.

With time to restock materials and assistance from ODOT mechanics, the snowplow drivers will make a few final adjustments as Mother Nature is always difficult to predict.
