Nelsonville Bypass Phase 2 Update
Contractors with The Ohio Department of Transportation and Kokosing Construction Company have been hard at work on the Buckeye State’s largest single investment of stimulus funds: The Nelsonville Bypass Project.
According to Cary Betzing, ODOT Project Engineer for Phase II, crews have excavated about 3.16 million cubic yards of the 4.36 million to be moved on the job.
Betzing says work will continue on the bridges over West Interchange Road and contractors will be placing concrete decks over those bridges later this month and then move on to the bridges over State Route 278.
Later this summer, paving is expected to begin on the completed portion of Phase I and some of the earthwork of Phase II. Also, subcontractors will be working on fences and reinforcing some of the decks.
By the end of 2011, Betzing hopes to have all four bridges complete with two more partially complete and will have two more to build in 2012.
The new completion date for Phase II is set for November 2012, which is about a year earlier than originally expected.
