ODOT to Hold Public Meeting
for U.S. 33 and East State Street Interchange
ATHENS COUNTY (Wednesday, April 23, 2014) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 10 invites you to attend a public meeting regarding a safety study for U.S. Route 33 and East State Street interchange in Athens, Ohio. The study area is bounded by Home Street on the west and the Walmart intersection on the east, a distance of 1.1 miles. The public meeting will review congestion issues within the interchange, pedestrian concerns on East State Street, and potential countermeasures to reduce crashes and improve traffic flow.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 8th from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at the:
Athens Community Center
701 East State Street
Athens, OH 45701
There will be a short presentation at 5:30 PM. Exhibits of the project will be available for viewing both before and following the meeting. Representatives from ODOT, City of Athens, and its consultant, Parsons Brinckerhoff, will be available throughout the evening to address questions; public comment will be used to help guide the overall decision-making process.
The East State Street interchange with US 33 was built in the 1960s. Commercial development of the East State Street corridor has led to excessive congestion, more crashes, and pedestrian safety concerns. The purpose of the safety study is to identify cost-effective countermeasures that will reduce crashes, improve traffic flow and safely accommodate pedestrians.
Comments regarding the project will be received at the meeting or may be submitted by June 15, 2014 to the following address. All comments received by the due date will be considered. Please submit comments and questions to:
