Interstate 70 Westbound Rest Area opens
Jacksontown, Ohio (Friday, January 07, 2011) – The Interstate 70 westbound rest area and Travel Information Center at Exit 210 in Belmont County will open at 9 a.m. on Friday morning, January 7th. This project was part of the $23 million, five-mile major upgrade of the interstate.
ODOT's Appalachian Gateway Travel Information Center will also re-open at the westbound location.
The eastbound rest area that closed in May will remain closed throughout the duration of the highway project -- fall of 2011. ODOT's contractor, Kokosing Construction Company, from Columbus, Ohio, will continue reconstructing the eastbound lanes, as the westbound lanes open December 31, 2010.
Rest area upgrades of the facilities include new floors, new roof, new plumbing, heating and air conditioning, electrical systems and lighting, the addition of a family restroom, and new sidewalk.
The completion date for this project is October 31, 2011.
ODOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN for the "Cone Zone;" turn on headlights and drive carefully in work zones. Drive responsibly for your safety and the safety of the highway workers. Remember, fines in work zones are doubled for not obeying traffic signs. Minimize distractions – turn OFF cell phones in construction zones. Remember to always buckle up.
