Fort Steuben Bridge demolition project gets underway
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Wednesday, January 11, 2012) – Work is getting underway this week to begin dismantling the Fort Steuben Bridge in Jefferson County.
ODOT’s contractor, Joseph B. Fay Company, from Russellton, Pennsylvania, began sawing on the structure yesterday to work on dismantling the outside panels.
One blast will be scheduled for the demolition, and it’s currently anticipated for late February or early March.
At least one lane of SR 7 north and southbound will remain open at all times.
The 1929 bridge was permanently closed to traffic in January 2009.
The cost of the project is $2.3 million, and the completion date is mid-April.
