More traffic changes at Marion Street in Bridgeport
New Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, January 20, 2015) – To improve traffic flow at Marion Street (Exit 225) in Bridgeport, more changes are occurring today.
The westbound on-ramp to Interstate 70 was closed yesterday with alternating, two-way traffic in a single lane. However to improve travel conditions, Marion Street is now being closed to all southbound traffic from U.S. Route 40 to Howard Street. One lane for northbound traffic will be maintained from Howard Street to U.S. 40. Southbound Marion Street traffic will be detoured on U.S. 40 to South Lincoln Avenue (7A) back to Howard Street.
The I-70 eastbound exit ramp bridge was closed earlier this month. Local traffic remains detoured on U.S. 40 from Bridgeport to the Belmont County Road 214 Exit. Access to Bridgeport will be maintained. However, thru truck traffic is encouraged to use I-470 to avoid congestion and possible delays.
Three structures are being replaced as part of the $9 million bridge replacement project, including the Marion Street bridge over I-70 and the eastbound on and off ramp structures to I-70.
ODOT’s contractor is JD Williamson Construction Co. Inc., from Tallmadge, Ohio, and the completion date is mid-November 2015.
