State Route 83 to be closed for tree
ODOT clearing canopy over roadway
and performing right of way maintenance
Philadelphia, Ohio (Monday, January 25, 2016) – Beginning next Monday, February 1st, State Route 83
will be closed during daytime hours in Holmes County for tree trimming and
vegetation management work.
permitting, SR 83 will be closed from
8 a.m. and 5 p.m. between U.S. Route 62 and Black Diamond
Golf Course through Friday, February 19th.
ODOT’s Holmes County crew will be using a “SkyTrim” unit for
canopy removal and right of way clearing and maintenance.
ODOT District 11 Deputy Director Lloyd MacAdam said, “Clearing overhead
canopy from our roads improves our pavement longevity and increases motorist
safety in the winter.”
at the intersection of SR 83 and U.S. 62, traffic will be detoured west on U.S.
62 to SR 60 south to U.S. 36 east back to SR 83, and reverse. Motorists should plan ahead to avoid delays.
The “SkyTrim” is self-contained and requires virtually no set up
time. ODOT also uses a similar unit called the “Jarraff” and has completed work
in other parts of eastern Ohio with it. Both machines allow smaller crews to do
more work in less time, and since workers never leave the ground, the equipment
adds safety to the job.
